Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Sri Lanka Customs Department was established with a view of centralizing all customs investigations and maintaining Central Case Register (CCR). DO PL 456 Issued in this regard is attached at annex 1

Existing CIB was upgraded to a directorate with the implementation of new organizational structure with a view of centralizing all customs investigations under one directorate that functions under Enforcement Cluster, in order to conduct investigations efficiently and effectively in professional manner. However, the following directorates and units will be allowed to handle investigations (provided that they are registered in CCR) for the purposes indicated against them.

Sri Lanka Customs imposed fines totalling Rs 300,000 on two suspects, both locals, who tried to smuggle in gold to the value of Rs 15 million from Singapore in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The detection was made at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.
